OQUOSSOC – The World Record Snowmobile Ride to Benefit Cystic Fibrosis Foundation netted over $28,000 in Oquossoc.
On a beautiful afternoon on Saturday, Feb. 18, hundreds of snowmobile riders descended upon the Bald Mountain Camps on Mooselookmeguntic Lake to join in a 20 to 30 mile charity ride to benefit those diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. The ride went near Bald Mountain, across Rangeley Lake, through part of downtown between Moose Alley and the public boat launch, and back up to Mooselookmeguntic Lake.
The event was hosted by Stephen Philbrick and his staff at the Bald Mountain Camps on the ice. WMTW- TV channel 8 news anchor Steven Minich was the emcee. The Cystic Fibrosis ambassador was Austin Garey, of Auburn, a 12-year-old boy with cystic fibrosis. There was music, a bonfire, and event merchandise for sale. Many have participated in the for attempt three or four years, and keep coming back again each year.
While the event did not break the Guinness Book of World Records this year, the event was successful in raising $28,000, and educating participants about the disease. The organizers are looking forward to every annual attempt. Plan on joining in 2018!
