SABATTUS – On Saturday, Feb. 4, a windy and cold day with temperatures hovering near 19 degrees, over a thousand ice fishermen participated in the Oak Hill Pike Fishing Derby on Sabattus Lake. The derby, which benefits the Oak Hill Boosters Club, was sponsored by the likes of Turner Publishing, Jack Traps, and L.R. Nadeau, and featured over $8,000 worth of prizes.
First prize of $2,000 went to Brady Harrison who hauled up a 17.59-pound pike. Second prize of $1,000 went to Jim Rafuse for his 15.82-pound pike. And third prize of $500 went to Keegan Chasse for his 15.06-pound pike. In the kids’ divisioin, first prize of ultimate pack basket went to Maddox Madore for his 1.61-pound perch. Second prize of ultimate pack basket went to Logan Chaput for his 1.52-pound perch. And third prize of two traps went to Bryce Burgess for his 1.36-pound perch.
The grand prize, an ice shack, went to Brock Leavitt, of St. Albans, Me. Additional prizes were awarded in various categories. The list of prizes can be found on Jack Traps’ Facebook page.
Michelle Pushard, representing both Turner Publishing and the Oak Hill Boosters Club, was part of the set up of “derby central” where she was stationed throughout the derby. “It went off without a hitch,” she said. “Everything worked out just great.”
