LEWISTON – “What a surprise! The high school ring I lost 25 to 30 years ago was returned to me today at work. Thank you so much Mike Caron, you made my day!” posted Deb Masselli Clarke, of Wales, Maine, on her Facebook page on Friday, Feb. 3. Clarke works for the city of Lewiston as a dispatcher in the Public Works department.
Clarke wrote that Caron metal detects as a hobby. After he found the ring, he looked to see if there was a reunion page on Facebook as the ring had the year 1975 on it. Through a process of elimination Clarke was determined to be the owner.
“My initials were inscribed on the inside of the band,” noted Clarke,” and I described it to a T.”
Many reading on Facebook about Clarke’s good luck wanted to know where Caron found the ring. She stated, “The ring was found at the playground at Montello School in Lewiston – under six inches of dirt!”
Mike Caron, of Lewiston, added his thoughts on Clarke’s post, “Most of the stuff we find metal detecting we will never know who it belongs to. Class rings have initials, years and the school’s name, so with a little investigating we can figure out who the owners are. It is one way to give back to the community and to have a great story to tell all my friends in the hobby.”
