AUBURN – The Auburn Winter Festival had many events and activities for citizens and visitors during the weekend of Jan. 27-29. These activities included public skating at Norway Savings Bank Arena; children’s sledding and S’more-making bonfire at Lost Valley along with reduced lift tickets; One Great Falls Plaza featured displays of ice carving and metal sculpture, crafts for kids and an Asian-French cabaret of food and drink; the Woman’s Literary Union hosted a concert with Larry Gowell and Linne Perry at the Foss Mansion, a Tiara Tea for the Fairy Godmother Project attended by Miss Teen Maine, Victoria Timm, and a Bunco game session.
Over three dozen people participated in a ski-snowshoe duathlon hosted by Baxter Brewing at Lost Valley. Several folks attended a ribbon cutting at the much improved Whitman Spring Trail behind Lake Auburn. Former Auburn councilor Tizz Crowley did the honors while Lynn Richard of the Lake Auburn Watershed Commission, Auburn Water District, thanked all those who helped in the project. Quarter-mile markers have been placed, as well as informative signs about the area flora, history and environmental information and monitoring.
A petting zoo by Pony X-Press, Pet-a-Pony at Maple Hill Farms, a snow playground, family movie matinee, an open house at Roak Block, torch light parade, and Saturday fireworks were among the variety of activities in the three-day affair. Live music was also provided at a Gritty’s ice bar on Main Street and One Great Falls Plaza for those attending the evening events.
