BRIDGTON — Bridgton Hospital observed National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Week from Jan. 22 through 28. Certified registered nurse anesthetists are advanced practice nurses who administer 40 million anesthetics per year in the United States.
CRNAs proudly serve as the sole anesthesia providers at Bridgton Hospital and many other rural hospitals throughout America. CRNAs have been the primary providers of anesthesia services to the United States military since World War I.
Thomas Nolan CRNA, Sergei Pavlov CRNA, DNP and Ibra “Chip” Ripley CRNA, MSNA are employed by Bridgton Hospital. The services they provide include anesthesia for surgery and special procedures, acute pain management, epidural analgesia for labor and delivery intravenous access consultation and airway management for resuscitation. All services are available 24 hours a day.
Nolan, Pavlov and Ripley are members of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the Maine Association of Nurse Anesthetists and are adjunct clinical faculty at the University of New England School of Nurse Anesthesia. Bridgton Hospital is a clinical practice site for UNE. Graduate students from the university frequently spend from one to four months at Bridgton Hospital under the supervision of the CRNAs as a part of their formal education.
