LOVELL — Delta Masonic Lodge held its second annual spaghetti supper on Aug. 13 supporting Sunshine Project Backpack in SAD 72 to help feed hungry children. Nearly 1 in 5 children in America come from food-insecure homes.
At this time there are 65 children signed up in Fryeburg, Brownfield and Lovell for this worthy program; last year 45 children assisted. Each backpack contains shelf-stable foods for breakfast, lunch and a snack for each weekend day. The foods do not require cooking on a stove, but are nutritious.
In previous years $300 provided food for a student and that means 110 days of not being hungry for a child, and prices have increased. The money received from the supper was submitted to the Masonic Charitable Foundation for a matching grant, which was approved. On Jan. 5 a check was presented to Christine Cunningham from Master Bob Drew of Delta Lodge for $720. This year’s spaghetti supper will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 12.
