AUBURN — Androscoggin Historical Society will host a genealogy conference with presentations by Ethelind Wright on church records and by Cheryl Swift on internet sources and programs at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Auburn Public Library’s Community Room, 49 Spring St.
Ethelind Wright, an experienced genealogist and daughter of a minister, has long been aware of the wealth of information about people and families housed in local churches and denominational archives. Her latent interest in church records was more recently piqued by her discovery of an ancestral connection to Asbury Grove in Hamilton, Mass.
Lin recently earned her M.S. degree in American and New England studies from USM. She has taught LAC’s Senior College courses in genealogy for several semesters.
Lin is currently serving as the registrar of the Mary Dillingham-Burnt Meadow chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and as historian for High Street Congregational Church, UCC, in Auburn. She is a member of the Asbury Grove Historical Society and the New England Historic Genealogical Society.
Cheryl Swift will be speaking on “Genealogy from your Desktop,” how to find and use online resources. Her interest in genealogy began in 1974, while visiting her grandfather, when she made that one vital comment, “Tell me about your life as a boy,” and so the adventure began.
Cheryl is currently a state officer, chapter regent and volunteer genealogist for the DAR. She belongs to the Maine Historical Society and Maine Old Cemetery Association. She has photographed 13 cemeteries and researched the genealogy of individuals buried therein in her hometown, Washington.
Cheryl was instrumental in starting a free DAR genealogy workshop in partnership with the Maine State Library. Many DAR members from other chapters have joined to help anyone who is interested in learning genealogy.
