Monmouth Community Players to hold auditions for ‘Oklahoma!’ Feb. 5, 6

MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Community Players are holding open auditions for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s premiere musical collaboration “Oklahoma!” from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, and Monday, Feb. 6, at the historic Cumston Hall.

Auditions are open to all ages, high school through mature adults. Performers should enjoy acting, singing and dancing. The theater group also welcomes residents who enjoy helping behind the scenes.

This production is being directed by Josie French of Lewiston. Cindy Dunham of Winthrop will be the show’s producer.

If you cannot make either audition, please contact the director at storytwist@yahoo.com to make alternate arrangements. If cast, rehearsals will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday evenings amd frp, 2 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

The plot revolves around the question of who will take Laurey Williams to the box social — the decent Curly McLain or the sinister Jud Fry. “Oklahoma!” also provides a depiction of pioneering men and women of the American Southwest.

Those auditioning should prepare approximately 16 bars to perform with accompaniment. Songs from outside the show are acceptable as long as sheet music is provided for the accompanist. There will also be script readings at auditions, with possible choreography. Please wear comfortable clothes.

“Oklahoma!” opens at Cumston Hall on April 21 and runs through April 30 with evening and matinee shows. Tickets are $14 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors.
