The staff at Turner Publishing, Inc. hopes its readers have had a joyous holiday season, whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or Festivus for the rest of us. We have a lot to be grateful for this winter, including snow! If you’re one of those who don’t like snow at all, sorry. We are glad for the businesses that depend on snow.
Snow is a big part of Maine’s winter tourism scene and is needed for many outdoor winter activities. We’ve included information about ice fishing, snowmobiling, and other winter sports. Maybe you’ll decide to try a new winter activity this year.
The theme of this January 2017 issue of Boomers is “Fun in the Snow.” Even though the theme is snow, don’t let that prevent you from dreaming about traveling to warmer climates. We have travel articles including one on travel tips and one about what to enjoy in rhodes, Greece. Daydreaming is allowed.
Our ice fishing stories include safety tips, photos of local ice fishermen, and information from Maine.gov about various ice fishing regions in the state.
As always, our Boomers publications include health, nutrition and fitness articles. This issue includes a story about the health benefits of tai chi from Diane Atwood, known for her Catching Health segment on television and her blog. She also sent us an article about the Mediterranean diet and how research is looking into a possible link between that diet and less than normal brain shrinkage in its followers. A must-read for all Boomers.
Our cover story is about our long-time reporter, Bill Van Tassel. His byline and photo credit have appeared in our papers for 25 years, since the inception of Turner Publishing. We appreciate his wit in writing about his love-hate relationship with snow. Probably many of our readers will relate to what Bill expresses in his story. Interesting that many who come from away, end up staying in Maine, even after experiencing a lot of snow.
This issue is a great resource for Boomers, from the articles to the advertisers, so there should be something for everyone to enjoy within these pages. We enjoyed putting this issue together, as we do all our publications.
