NAPLES — Since May of 2009, Bobby Silcott has been on a mission. His mission: to help equip local fire/rescue organizations statewide, with Pet Oxygen Masks designed for most companion animals through the organization the Maine POM Project. To do this, Silcott received the necessary education to qualify him to teach Cat and Dog First Aid/CPR, as well as American Heart Association Heartsaver/BLS First Aid/CPR/AED courses.
Silcott has volunteered his time, so proceeds from these classes have gone toward the purchase of these much needed masks. The cost to take the class is $80 per person prepaid and includes a book, DVD and certificate.
Silcott welcomes the help of any individual, business, community group etc in raising funds for the project.
A set of POMs costs $80 including shipping and handling. A set includes one each of small, medium and large masks. The masks are reusable and will provide many years of life-saving use.
“The Maine POM project strives to hand deliver POMs to fire and rescues so that we can teach them the proper use of the masks. As of today, we have presented 310 sets throughout the state of Maine,” said Silcott.
