Britney Belskis: New Year resolutions

Hey, friends,
As we gear up for the New Year, a lot of people have asked me, “Britny, what are your New Year resolutions?”

I start rattling off the long grocery list of things that I said last year. Getting healthily, join the gym, finishing reading the books that I started but never finished. I think I have only done two out of all the things that I said I would do.

Can you relate to the pressure to get your New Year’s Resolutions done? Have no fear, there is a renewed hope that we can hold onto.
The other day I was listening to a podcast from Lysa Turkeurst, who was talking about change. Turkeurst said: “People fail.

Circumstances fail. But I’ve seen firsthand a reaction of love to failures and falters send ripples of unfailing grace into the world. Today, let’s choose love.”

I’m going to take her advice and choose.

How would this look in our own community? It only starts with one person to start a loci revolution. Let’s break the stigma that our world has been accustomed to. Next time you find yourself in Dunkin’ Donuts, look for the opportunity to make someone’s day by buying their coffee. Or send someone a text saying. “Hey, thinking of you.”

Trust me, the reaction that you get will be transformational.

I heard a story from a friend who told me that she received a text message right when she needed to hear it. The text message was from one of her other friends and said “you are loved.”

You see, my friend has depression and the battle of that can be earth-shattering. She told me before she received that message that she was debating suicide. She told me because of that friend who cared, she knew that it was going to be OK.

We don’t know the battles that people around us are going through. It just takes one person to start the chain reaction of loving others.

God Bless and Happy New Year.
