Auburn library announces January teen calendar

Homework Help for Teens, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 26, Teen Space Teens! Homework Help is here! Stop by the Teen Space to get help with time management, schedule planning, goal setting and learn how to be successful with your homework! This program is just for teens in grades 7 to 12 and will include a healthy snack.

Teen Anime Club, 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, Androscoggin Community Room
Get animated over anime! Teens, ages 12 to 18, can drop in to talk about their favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch this week’s selection of anime, and try your hand at drawing your own characters. This program was made possible by a generous gift of the P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. Snacks will be provided.

Teens! Friday Movie: TBD, 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, Androscoggin Community Room
Teens! Join us in the Androscoggin Community Room on the first Friday of each month to relax and enjoy a movie. Since we celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. in January we’ll turn our attention to civil rights. Teens attending will choose either “The Help” (PG-13) or “Driving Miss Daisy” (PG). If you have a preference, let us know. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18, and will include a snack.

Teens! Snack Chat! 3 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 9 and 23, Teen Space
Join us in the Teen Space twice a month to enjoy a healthy after school snack and engage in some enlightening conversation about current events. This program is provided by support from Jim Pittman of Jim’s Auto Sales and is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

Tweens in the Teen Space, 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, Teen Space
Tweens who are in sixth grade are invited to join us in the Teen Space on the second floor on half-day Wednesdays. We’ll have crafts or board games available, stop by to simply hang out, or get a head start on your homework.

Gaming Hour, 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11 and Friday, Jan. 27, Androscoggin Community Room
Take a break and stop by the Androscoggin Room on lower level for video games and snacks. We have XBox and Wii (sorry, only games rated teen and younger). Just for teens, ages 12 to 18, this program was made possible by a generous gift of the P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.

Safe Voices Drop-In Visit, 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, Teen Space
Come meet Kelly from Safe Voices. Each month, she will visit the Teen Space to chat about relationships and work on projects. Just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

Teen Life Skills 2017: Safety for Teens, 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, Teen Space
Teens! As part of our 2017 Teen Life Skills series, this month we’ll be talking about safety, both at home and in your communities. Come meet with members of the Auburn Police Department to discuss the best safety practices. There will be a presentation followed by some time for questions. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

Maine Job Corps Info Session, 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, Conference Room
Teens and New Adults! If you had the opportunity to take part in a life-changing experience that gave you the skills you need to succeed in today’s job market, and it didn’t cost anything, would you be interested? If so, the Job Corps may be for you! Join us today when Hanya Phillips of the Maine Job Corps visits to explain how the program works and who is eligible. Teens! DIY Takeover: Mini Zen Gardens, 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, Teen Space
Teens! Join us in the Teen Space on the third Wednesday of each month for a do-it-yourself craft. This month, to help you de-stress in the midst of your mid-term exams, we’ll put together mini zen gardens! So that we have enough supplies, registration is requested. Please either give us a call or register on the Events page of our website. Have ideas for a future DIY? Let us know! This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

Teens! Discoveries in STEM, 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, Teen Space
Teens! Come join Maisy Cyr of 4H and discover how you really do use science, technology and math outside of the classroom! We may dabble in food science, animal science, simple machinery and technology, or just make some crazy creations. All you need to bring are some big ideas and an open mind. Together, let’s see what we can come up with! This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

Teen Life Skills 2017: 10 Tips for Teens by Healthy Androscoggin, Tuesdays: Jan. 24 (4 to 5 p.m.), Feb. 28, Mar. 28 and Apr. 25 (3 to 4 p.m.), Androscoggin Community Room
A series of four classes, 10 Tips for Teens is where you’ll learn how to add more fruits and veggies to your day while learning basic cooking skills. We will make and eat a recipe each class and play games (with prizes)! Join Missy from Healthy Androscoggin for this series, which is just for teens ages 12 to 18. For our planning purposes, please register; give us a call or visit the events page on our website.

DIY Teens! Media Club, 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, CREATE! Media Lab
Movies! Music! Graphic arts! If you can imagine it, you can create it in our Media Lab. Teens, ages 12 to 18, can join our Media Club. This month, we’ll be working with the green screen.

SAPARS, 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, Teen Space
Visit with Hannah from Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services. Each month, she will visit to discuss and create awareness of teen issues like healthy relationships, sexual assault, bullying, harassment, substance use/abuse, and internet safety. Just for teens, this event takes place in the Teen Space and may include snacks!

Library hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, 9 am-6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The library will be closed Jan. 2 (observance of New Year’s Day) and Jan. 16 (MLK Day).
