PHILLIPS — The second annual Thanksgiving pie sale was a success! Winona Davenport and Carrie Bredeau recruited 68 homemade pies from more than two dozen local bakers — and baked more than a few themselves — raising $1,131 for the Phillips Area Community Center’s maintenance fund.
In addition, the Community Christian Women’s organization held its annual Children’s Shopping Day at the Avon Community Center, attracting 83 youngsters from the local area who, besides saying hello to Mr. and Mrs. Claus, were able to buy Christmas gifts for 25 cents.
Started some 20 years ago by Nana Haines, the annual event depends almost entirely on donations from the public – both of gifts and money.
