AUBURN — Winter months in Maine can be challenging. For the third year in a row, Auburn Public Services is proud to offer the Sand Buckets for Seniors program in which APS employees provide (and deliver) a free bucket full of sand for senior citizens living in Auburn.
Recipients use this sand on their walkways, steps and driveways to make them safer during the snowy/icy winter months.
“This program is a way for the city to show our appreciation and respect for the seniors in our community, and to help keep them safe,” Public Services Director Dan Goyette said. “Our employees really enjoy connecting with residents in this way.”
This special program is made possible through the generous support of Home Depot and Lowe’s of Auburn, which partner with Auburn Public Services to show seniors that their community cares.
Auburn homeowners who are 65 and older and wish to receive a free bucket of sand to use on their steps and walkways should call 207- 333-6670 by Dec. 16 to enroll. Buckets will be delivered beginning on Dec. 5.
