AUGUSTA — The Maine State Museum will enhance the visitor and discovery experience by providing complimentary Wi-Fi, partnered with digital signage, in the museum’s welcome area and entry level exhibit areas. The new services will be launched at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at the Maine State Museum. The public is invited.
As the Maine State Museum continues to plan for its state-of-the-art education center, the ability to leverage digital technologies will become critical to developing new learning tools. Communication and information are synonymous with digital access and social media, yet, the museum’s building, because of its sheer size and layout, requires additional investment and enhancement to expand visitor services to include digital access.
Visitors now, and in the future, can go behind the scenes and be notified of events and happenings at the MSM through the use of digital signage in the museum’s welcome area. Information can be shared about new artifacts and programs. All guests will be able to send and receive communications from their personal devices at the Maine State Museum throughout the entrance floor level.
The new and vibrant service will allow the Maine State Museum to begin to build programs for the future that includes internet-based learning components throughout the museum, critical to meeting the needs of today’s learners.
