Cary Library presents ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’ Dec. 9

Nov. 282016

WAYNE — Andrew Harris, chairman of the Theatre Department at USM and executive director of Deertrees Theatre, will perform “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road.

A graduate of the University of London and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in England, Harris worked in both professional theatre and arts education. With a move to Maine, he has continued his passion for both, was the director of L/A Arts in Lewiston and has acted in productions with Portland Stage Company, the Public Theatre and on film with The History Channel.

Last February Harris created a lively sketch of Charles Dickens at the Williams House. Now he returns for a dramatic reading of Dylan Thomas’ Christmas poem. In a Dec. 7, 2015, New Yorker review, Hilton Als said that “Thomas’ piece, a 45-minute prose poem, sounds like a cello when read aloud, deep and playful. [A] reminiscence about his post-First World War childhood … [it] has the value of lived experience and humor.” The program will be followed by a reception featuring light refreshments. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, so reservations are recommended. For reservations or more information, please contact Jane Andrews at 685-3754 or pjane@myfairpoint.net.
