JAY – Spruce Mountain Ski Slope is very grateful to the community, local
businesses and special organizations that have contributed to its 60 years
of operation.
“The little mountain that could”
“It takes a village (or three towns)”
“Duct tape will fix anything”
“Once a Spruce kid, always a Spruce kid”
All of these are phrases that have been heard at Spruce Mountain Ski Slope.
JAY – Spruce Mountain Ski Slope is very grateful to the community, local
businesses and special organizations that have contributed to its 60 years
of operation.
Only a few years ago it was unknown whether Spruce Mountain Ski Slope would
survive the closing of the local mill and its generous power donation every
season. A large successful effort went into raising funds to purchase a
generator to produce power in order to keep Spruce Mountain Ski Slope alive.
The mountain is managed by many volunteers, who can be found on the board of
directors, cleaning brush, making snow, working at the Sunday Funday races
or behind the counter flipping grilled cheese and making slushies.
Recently the Livermore Falls Women’s Club attended a board meeting to
announce that they had held a bake sale on Election Day at the Livermore
Town Office and raised $1,125 which was graciously donated to Spruce
Mountain Ski Slope.
In addition, a recent GoFundMe effort was undertaken in order to purchase
six new snow guns! While the snow gun fundraising purchase was successful,
the GoFundMe page continues to be active in order to keep donations coming
in to maintain the many additional costs to keep the mountain running.
As insurance and generator costs continue to rise, the mountain is always
looking for new ways to raise money to operate the slope.
For the third year in a row, the ski slope will have Dunkin’ Donuts mugs on
sale for $20. These entitle the holder to a free iced or cold coffee each
Sunday in 2017. The mugs, as well as pint glasses and T-shirts with a new
60-years-in-operation design, are all available at Ski Depot and can be
shipped for additional cost.
Day use gift certificates are available for holiday giving at a cost of $15
for junior/student or $18 for an adult. Please consider purchasing one or
multiple items for the “spruce kid” in your life!
