Annual 5K road race slated for July 29

BELGRADE — The Friends of the Belgrade Public Library will host its 8th annual 5K road race Saturday, July 29, beginning at 8 a.m. This is one of several events the organization sponsors to raise funds to support and maintain operation of the Belgrade Public Library. The race will start and finish at the library, and entrants can choose to walk, run or jog the course. This year the invitation is extended to all of area law enforcement agencies to participate in the 5K road race. As a way to show support, the registration fee for all off-duty police officers will be waived.

This will be the fourth year featuring the Summer Camp Challenge. Last year camp participants from Camp Caribou, Camp Matoaka, Camp Runoia and Camp Vega participated. A special camp award will go to the winning camp of the challenge.

Race day registration takes place at Belgrade Central School, 158 Depot Road, beginning at 7 a.m. Race day registration fee is $20 per person. Pre-race registration fee is $15 and is available at RunReg.com, www.belgrade.lib.me.us or www.friendsofbelgradepubliclibrary.com.

Awards will be presented to the overall male and female winners and to the top two finishers in each age category.
