OAKLAND — The Oakland Sidney United Methodist Church and the Lexington/Highland Historical Society will hold a combined sale both inside and outside from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at 20 West School St. Furniture, appliances, dishes, perennials, tools and hundreds of household items will be available for sale.
Proceeds will benefit church outreach programs and the Lexington/Highland History House project. The Lexington/Highland Historical Society was initiated in 1991, with an aim to ensure preservation of the history of Maine’s small towns, organizer Barbara Pinkham said.
Following years of collecting, the past six years have been devoted to volunteer construction of a 24-by-28 foot, two story building on a full basement with attached summer kitchen in Lexington, which opened in August. Logs harvested and donated from local woodlots have been milled into lumber materials for the project and furnishings in the house focus on the 1890s and early 1900s.
Aside from guided tours, the monthly meetings with varied program topics are held in the house. The next phase of the project is to complete a post and beam barn, blacksmith shop and exhibit room.
