BELGRADE — Actors from the movie “In the Moon’s Shadow,” which is being partially filmed in Belgrade, will do a staged reading from the script as a benefit for the Belgrade Public Library. The reading is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at the Belgrade Center For All Seasons.
Local actress Debra Lord Cooke, and Elissa Piszel, of New York, the leads in the film, will read a one-hour condensed version of the screenplay, which will be followed by a question and answer session with the director. Filmmakers plan to shoot partially in Belgrade, as well as Nebraska, to capture the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21.
The eclipse will be the first full eclipse of its kind in almost a century, and is expected to be the most photographed and recorded in history, according to a news release from the filmmakers. Director Alvin Case and writer Edward Case are building their narrative feature length film around it. The story is about two sisters coming together after a long period of not speaking to one another.
A road trip to the Sand Hills of Nebraska to watch the eclipse becomes the focal point of their journey toward reconciliation. Cooke, who is from Belgrade, has appeared in other films made in Maine, including “Empire Falls,” and “In the Bedroom.” She most recently was in “Cake: A Love Story.” Piszel has worked on Broadway, and has also written and produced a recent film, “Ellie’s Perk.”
Tickets are $10 and are available at the Belgrade Public Library, 124 Depot Road, and at the door the evening of the event.
