Artificial intelligence is April 28 Food for Thought topic

LEWISTON – Mathieu Poulin will discuss artificial intelligence at the next Food for Thought series talk, 1 p.m. Friday, April 28.
The talk is free and open to the public at 51 Westminster St, as well as on Zoom.
Mathieu Poulin is a non-traditional student at USM who has been studying artificial intelligence full-time for the past seven months. He has a certification in Natural Language Processing (getting computers to understand human language), which piqued his interest in AI and he has been following AI developments, as well as helping others get started with it.
Participants will get an overview of artificial intelligence, and will learn something about the kinds of AI and their development. Practical uses of AI in industries such as health care, finance, manufacturing, and transportation will be explored, along with AI safety and alignment. The talk will address the ethical problems associated with AI implementations, covering topics like bias, privacy, job displacement, and autonomous weapons. He will also discuss the future of AI and its potential impact on society.
No food will be served, but the college café will be open, and participants may bring food to the presentation.
