TURNER — If it’s the Fourth of July, then it must be time for the Turner Public Library’s “Festival on the Green,” featuring a variety of events as well as strawberry shortcake. So far, the planned events include:
* A wonderful and fun community parade starting at 10 a.m., assembling around Angello’s General Store and proceeding down Main Street (Route 117) to Leavitt Area High School. The parade will feature kids, bicycles and tricycles, animals of all sorts, music, horses and carriages, balloons, veterans, fire and police vehicles and farm equipment — hey, it’s our community!
* Immediately after the parade, the “World’s Best Strawberry Shortcake” will be served on the green by Turner Public Library volunteers.
* Throughout the day, games prepared and manned by the Leavitt Area High School junior class will be available in the area for children of all ages; a bounce house will be set up; the Turner History Museum and Historical Association will have an open house, and local organizations will offer food and drink.
* From 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the library’s annual book sale will be held in the Leavitt Institute building. This is a big event, where patrons can probably find the exact book they’ve always wanted to read!
* Looking for Fourth of July candy? Smack a piñata is scheduled for about 11 a.m. at a tree near the fence along the Common, and master pinata maker Lin Gilbert says this year’s target is truly outstanding, so give it whack.
* The Caldwell Brothers will perform in the gazebo starting around 11 a.m.
This event is a major fundraiser for a true gem of a community resource — Turner Public Library — along with several other local non-profits. Come out and enjoy the day, visit with your neighbors, and support lots of good causes!
