Road stream crossings workshop is June 12 in Carrabassett Valley

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A technical training workshop on proper installation and maintenance of road stream crossing structures to prevent erosion and enhance water quality and fish passage will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday, June 12, at the Carrabassett Valley Public Library.

The workshop, sponsored by the Maine Audubon Society, will also include forest management strategies to benefit birds and other wildlife. This training is hosted in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Maine Forest Service. It will start with a classroom session at the library, then move outside to visit field training sites in the Kennebec River watershed.

The workshop is for landowners (including woodlot and camp owners as well as lake and road association members), road construction contractors, loggers, foresters, and forestland managers, as well as others interested in habitat connectivity, stream restoration and fisheries management are encouraged to participate.

There is no fee to attend and continuing education credits are available for licensed foresters.
