Nomad Trail Race series begins June 8

NORWAY — The Nomad Trail Race Series kicks into gear at Thursday, June 8, at 6 p.m.for the fourth year of summer trail runs in Norway. Races will be held at 6 p.m., on the second Thursday of each month — June through October, rain or shine. Series sponsors Café Nomad and the Western Foothills Land Trust are changing the location and the run options to encourage a diversity of abilities and ages. This year, the races will be held at Shepard’s Farm Family Preserve, 121 Crockett Ridge Road.

The “Full Witt’s End Race” will be a five-mile, out-and-back race run in open fields and through interesting and varied woodland habitats on the newly constructed Witt’s End Trail, an enjoyable run machined to accommodate mountain bikers, walkers and hikers; it has gentle slopes and turns as it circumvents Witt Swamp. There is a small parking area and trail head off Pleasant Street, one mile north of Main Street, across from Emerson Street.

The “Shepard’s Crook Race” will be a two-mile loop race run in the fields and on the woods trails in Shepard’s Farm Family Preserve. These are gentle trails with modest slopes.

While the longer races are being run, children and adults not given to running are welcome to participate in a sculpture-to-sculpture scavenger hunt incorporating the six Bernard Langlais sculptures at Shepard’s Farm.

Registration is $10 for the 5-mile and 2-mile races; $40 for the race series. Online sign-up is available at www.runsignup.com; onsite registration will open at 5:30 p.m.
