OXFORD — Since 2007, AAH Fireworks has been a leading suppliers of fireworks in Maine, with a large inventory of products, affordable prices and a loyalty rewards program.
Founder and owner Andre Vandenbulcke, started in the business stocking and unloading trailers at Fireworks Over the Border Inc. in Seabrook, N.H., at the age of 14.
A resident of Bethel, Vandenbulcke graduated from Gould Academy in 2000, became manager of Fireworks Over the Border Inc. shortly after that. In 2006, he flew to China to learn more about the import and export trade business, designed his first catalog, and AAH Fireworks was born.
Vandenbulcke cannot emphasize enough the importance of safety when using fireworks. Any user must also be aware of and obey town and state regulations and know that one may not cross state lines with fireworks.
He offered some key safety guidelines when using fireworks:
* Always read and follow instructions on the label.
* Never let children handle or light fireworks. Always have an adult present.
* Alcohol and fireworks do NOT mix.
* Never carry fireworks in your pocket or ignite fireworks indoors.
* Use fireworks on a hard, flat, level surface.
* Use fireworks in a clear open area and never shoot fireworks in a metal or glass container.
* Keep audience at a safe distance.
* Do not light in grass or brush or near any flammable items.
* Keep clear of fireworks and never put your head or any part of your body over the top of any firework.
* Never look into a tube to check on the firework item.
* Never hold a lit firework in your hand.
* Never throw fireworks at another person
* Light fireworks one at a time and never relight malfunctioning or “dud” fireworks.
* After use, put all fireworks in a bucket of water. If a firework fails to work, wait 15-20 minutes and then put in water.
* Always have a fire extinguisher, bucket of water, or hose nearby.
* Store fireworks in a cool dry place.
* In Maine, it is illegal for persons under the age of 21 to purchase, possess or use fireworks or furnish fireworks to those under 21.
* Keep your neighborhood clean of fireworks litter. Double wrap the soaked fireworks in plastic bags so they don’t dry out and place them in your household trash or take them to your local solid waste facility. You may also contact your local fire department about disposal.
