Safe Voices Grown-Up Book Fair fundraiser is Feb. 16

AUBURN – Safe Voices is hosting a Grown-Up Book Fair Thursday, Feb. 16, a community event and fundraiser aimed at “bringing back the magic” of childhood school book fairs.
The Grown-Up Book Fair will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hilton Garden Inn Riverfront. Independent Maine bookstores and artisans will be represented, and it “will have all the things you remember from the old days, including books, stickers, stationery, and even a throwback Polaroid photo booth.”
Books will be supplied by Quiet City Books of Lewiston and Devaney, Doak & Garrett Booksellers of Farmington, as well as used book sales from the Auburn, Lewiston, and Turner public libraries. A dozen Maine artisans will sell book fair-style products like stationery, stickers, bookmarks, art, and more.
The Hilton will provide complimentary popcorn and a cash bar, including a specialty cocktail, the Grown-Up Capri Sun.
Maine authors Lynn Steger Strong, author of 2022’s “Flight,” Melody Paul, author of “Walking the Recovery Road,” and Lynne Schmidt, author of “Sexytime,” will sign books.
Safe Voices operates the only shelter and support services for victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking and exploitation in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties. Services include one-on-one safety planning, support groups, information and referral, court advocacy, transportation and accommodation for shelter, community education, and professional training.
