RANGELEY — As summer grows ever closer, options for fun and knowledge expand as well. Here are several items of interest to let you know what’s happening in the area:
SANDY RIVER FARMER’S MARKET — Farm fresh food tops the tables at the farmer’s market, including vegetables, eggs, baked goods and more. The market is open Tuesdays, beginning June 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., located at South Shore Drive and Route 4. In addition to farm-fresh food, crafts will be available. RANGELEY FAMILY MEDICINE — Take advantage of free classes for “healthy cooking on a budget” Tuesdays, beginning June 6 through 27, from 5 to 6 p.m. Rangeley Family Medicine has partnered with Maine SNAP-Ed to offer a “10 Tips” nutrition course at Rangeley Health and Wellness, Dallas Hill Road. Rangeley Health and Wellness is a non profit 501(c)3 dedicated to bringing quality health and wellness services to Rangeley and the surrounding communities.
SUMMER 2017 WALK/RUN SERIES ANNOUNCED:
* June 10 — Farmer’s Daughter Walk/Run, 10 a.m. (3- and 6-mile out and back options), starts and ends at The Farmers Daughter, 13 Rumford Rd, Oqossoc. All participants receive a coupon for 10% off at The Farmers Daughter valid Saturday and Sunday.
* June 24 — Lupine Walk/Run, 10 a.m. (3 mile loop), starts and ends at The Mingo Loop Bird Watch Trail, accessed at the intersection of Route 4 and Mingo Loop Road. Finish in a beautiful bed of blooming lupines.
* July 3rd — Stars and Stripes Walk/Run, 8 a.m. (3.5 mile loop on Depot Street), starts and ends at the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce, 6 Park Road; wear your red, white and blue.
* August 5 — THE ORIGINAL R.O.A.R. (Rangeley Outdoor Adventure Run), 9 a.m. This is a loop obstacle course all on chamber property. See how many times you can complete the course in 60 minutes. Team relay and partner options are available.
Lakeside Theater fundraiser — Rangeley Friends of the Arts will hold a fundraiser Friday, July 14, beginning at 6 p.m. at Lakeside Theater, 2493 Main St., hosted by the Patnode family and featuring Good Acoustics, a James Taylor/Simon & Garfunkel tribute band.
A trio from western Massachusetts, Good Acoustics is well-known for its emphasis on strong vocals, with all three members contributing to the harmonies. Their spot-on renditions will keep you mesmerized throughout the entire performance. Tickets for this fundraising event are $100 each, and all proceeds will benefit bringing first-run movies to the largest screen in Franklin County — Rangeley’s own RFA Lakeside Theater.
Tickets to this event are $100 per person and include the price of concert admission, a cocktail reception, desserts and an after-party, exclusively sponsored by the Patnode family and spearheaded by Gary and Jackie Patnode. The evening’s proceeds will support the purchase of new digital movie projection equipment for the RFA Lakeside Theater.
RLHT SHARES GOOD NEWS — The Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust has announced the acquisition of a 70-acre property on Rangeley Lake. Located on the eastern shoreline of Hunter Cove, the property abuts the 100-acre Hunter Cove Wildlife Sanctuary, and is directly across the cove from the 180-acre “Hunter Cove Uplands.”
To honor the generations of Lewins who treasured this land, the Trust has dedicated it as “Lewin Woods.” The purchase of this property is made possible in part by a grant from the Maine Natural Resource Conservation Program. The remainder was donated by RLHT board members and the membership. With this purchase, RLHT has conserved more than 1,650 acres on Rangeley Lake.
