OXFORD — The first Short Folks for Hope Folk Fair will be held Saturday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Oxford Fairgrounds. The event is an arts and crafts fair and flea market with youth activities, demonstrations, music and more. This is a rain-or-shine event with free admission.
Short Folks for Hope Foundation of Norway, a 501(c)(3) charity, was founded in 2012 by Kristen Short, a singer/songwriter, wife to Dr. Chris Short and mother of three. After months of surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation and ongoing chemo-prevention and recovery from cancer treatment, Short is currently in remission. Through her cancer journey, she has met many courageous cancer warriors and kind caregivers and supporters, who inspire her and give her hope. Short desires to help others impacted by cancer and to inspire youth to spread hope and make a difference in their communities.
The mission of Short Folks for Hope Foundation is to empower, encourage and celebrate cancer warriors with special projects. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dempsey Center in Lewiston.
According to the Dempsey Center website, the center “offers a vibrant and compassionate environment where an interdisciplinary team of oncology professionals improve the healing experience for those impacted by cancer. Through our on-site customized programs, and the annual Dempsey Challenge, we provide support services that complement treatments, support caregivers, patients and their families equally.”
