Sidney Fire, Rescue recognized with SHAPE award

SIDNEY – The Sidney Fire and Rescue Departments have been recognized for public safety with the SHAPE award.
The Safety and Health Award for Public Employers recognizes public sector employers who maintain an exemplary safety and health management system. Acceptance into SHAPE by the Maine Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Standards is an achievement that distinguishes the town as a model workplace safety and health.
Fire Chief Richard Jandreau and Rescue Chief Dan Courtemanch were presented the award on Nov. 7 by Steve Greeley, director of the Workplace Safety & Health Division at the Maine Department of Labor.
The town is among 84 businesses in Maine that are acted and certified for the award.
“We are honored to be recognized for this award,” said Select Board Chair John Whitcomb. “None of it would have been possible without all the hard work of our employees and volunteers that help make Sidney a safe place to work.”
“It’s is an amazing feat,” said Desiree Lynn Hersom, administrative assistant to the select board.
“The long hours, the white-glove inspections on paperwork and buildings, the thorough process of overlooking all safety and health practices we have in place,” Hersom said. “Words cannot express how hard both our chiefs worked at obtaining this plaque. One great word comes to mind: Proud. We are extremely proud of all the employees that were on board and helped Sidney’s Fire and Rescue achieve this status.”
