AUBURN — Auburn Public Works has received a 2022 TD Tree Days grant, which allows the department and volunteers to plant 36 trees in the city.
TD Tree Days is a community-based program, created in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, that expands urban forests and green spaces in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods.
The trees will be plante in New Auburn on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
“By working with the City of Auburn to improve green spaces, we are not only protecting the environment but also helping people and communities thrive,” said Shelley Sylva, head of U.S. corporate citizenship at TD Bank. “We are thrilled to be able to bring back the in-person volunteering opportunities TD Tree Days provides and incredibly grateful to our volunteers and colleagues for their generous support helping to create a more vibrant and sustainable tomorrow.”
TD Tree Days, the bank’s flagship volunteer and urban greening program, has brought together thousands of volunteers from Maine to Florida and has been a major contributor to the TD Ready Commitment’s goal of planting one million trees across North America by 2030. To date, thousands of volunteers have supported numerous environmental initiatives, helping TD plant more than 800,000 trees across North America.
This year, Auburn Public Works is one of 19 organizations and municipalities in the United States awarded a TD Tree Days grant.
“This year will mark the fifth time that our team has had the honor of partnering with TD on this positive, impactful initiative,” said Denis D’Auteuil, director of Auburn Public Works. “These trees will put the perfect ‘finishing touch’ on a recently completed road project, and they will improve the quality of life and help beautify this neighborhood for generations to come.”
The tree planting will take place on Third Street and Sixth Street.
