Focusing on our future

It has been an honor to serve Winthrop and Readfield as your representative for the last two years and I am proud of the work we were able to accomplish. We finally made good on funding 55% of local education costs, and set aside an education stabilization fund to make sure funding continues. We made school lunch free for every Maine child, and we confronted forever chemicals head on.
We bettered Maine’s excellent voting protections by establishing an online voter registration system, made absentee voting easier and more accessible. We improved our auditing process to make sure that every vote is counted, but only once.
We ended the partisanship of primary elections by allowing every Maine voter to participate in primaries, not just Democrats and Republicans. Not to mention the countless programs to help small business and invest in a skilled workforce. All of which was done while adding to the healthiest rainy-day fund ever and without raising income taxes.
But there is still more to do. We must continue to improve our education system, by expanding career training and making college more affordable. I will continue to find ways to make it easier for Maine businesses to grow sustainably. It is essential to foster a smart transition to renewable energy, by encouraging all local energy sources and make sure that this transition is not made on the backs of those who can least afford it.
Finally, we must get big money out of politics and keep local elections local.
