Hiram Historical Society October events include return of Trash Can Turkey Roast

HIRAM – The Hiram Historical Society has several events scheduled for the month of October.
On Saturday, Oct. 1, there will be a display of antique tools 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tear Cap Workshops, Hampshire Street, Hiram. Woodworking tools and those of wainwrights and cobbler will be on display.
From Friday, Oct. 7 through Monday, Oct. 10, Art Show Hiram Landmarks in Color, will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. each day at Great Ossipee Museum, 20 Historical Ridge Road. The exhibition is of 18 watercolors by Baldwin artists Mary Burnell and Mary Cobb, who will be at the exhibition Saturday, so viewers can meet the artists.
At noon Saturday, Oct. 15, the historical society will host its fourth annual Trash Can Turkey Roast, returning after a COVID hiatus. It will be held at Great Ossipee Museum, 20 Historical Ridge, Hiram. There will be a kids craft table, raffle, live lobsters and more. Country music will be by David Foley. Kelly Day of Smoke ‘N Days will roast turkeys, BBQ pork, ribs and all the trimmings, cider, homemade apple and blueberry pies, kids will make leaf animals out of autumn leaves. Cost is $12, $5 for kids under 12, to benefit the historical society. It will be held rain or shine.
Great Ossipee Museum will be open for those attending. Exhibits include those of the 75th Anniversary of 1947 wildfires in Brownfield and Hiram, with photos, videos, vignette of firefighter and the women who supported them, a 1937 fire truck, and more.
