It’s fall in Maine, a favorite season of many people who choose to make our state home. It is the season of foliage, apple cider, and high school football (Go Hornets!). As happens every two years, it is also election season. I am proud to be running for a third term as your state representative for the communities of Leeds, Turner and Wayne.
I have lived in this area my whole life, graduating from Leavitt Area High School in 2001 and work as a Realtor. My family’s roots in my hometown of Turner go back more than 200 years. My family history includes farmers, small business workers, educators, and retail workers to name a few. In short, they are the people that have made Maine the way life should be.
That is why in my first two terms I have worked hard fighting for rural Maine and our way of life. I understand our values and will continue to fight for them. In the last two years I have seen the Democrats work to make Maine less affordable and less attractive. Far left groups like Maine Equal Justice just don’t understand that new taxes are not the way to prosperity in Maine.
Just this last term I worked to defeat two horrible bills that would have put additional taxes on things like health insurance and family camps. As a Realtor, I have had to buy health insurance on the individual market. Having the state collect an additional 3% tax as Democrats proposed and far-left groups like Maine Equal Justice supported on premiums would only make health insurance more expensive for Mainers. This is at a time when we are experiencing record high inflation and gas prices.
Like most Mainers, my family has a camp in Upton, Maine. My dad works as a carpenter, and I remember as a child making the 1.5-hour drive to Upton so he could spend his weekend building our camp so that we could make memories for years to come. Yet Democrats wanted to tax these family memories by enacting an additional tax on family camps. I spoke up and worked hard to defeat this terrible bill that was also supported by the far-left group Maine Equal Justice.
I also understand the importance of our sporting heritage and the second amendment. My late grandfather, Punk House, was a proud member of the National Rifle Association, and I am proud to have received their endorsement for a third term. I will always protect our right to keep and bear arms.
I hope to earn your vote for a third term on Nov. 8. As someone who has lived here my whole life and family has called our community home for over 200 years, I promise to continue to work for you. I will continue to fight for our way of life against new taxes and standing up for our constitutional rights.
