AUBURN — The 13th annual Androscoggin Land Trust River Clean-up will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 10, in both Lewiston and Jay.
Onsite registration is at Lewiston Farmer’s Market, 2 Oxford St. and at Pine Island, 2 Crash Road, in Jay.
In celebration of the communities Androscoggin Land Trust serves, the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act, and the work that ALT does for conservation in the Androscoggin River Watershed, cleanup events will run simultaneously, one focused on Lewiston/Auburn and another in Jay/Livermore Falls.
Particiapnts get a volunteer T-shirt (first come, first served), water station (bring your own container) and refreshments, cleaning supplies (gloves, bags, etc.) support and the opportunity to learn more about the river, its recreational opportunities and conservation values, what Androscoggin Land Trust does and time spent with your friends and neighbors for a good cause.
The event takes place rain or shine. There are zones for shoreline pickup on both sides of the river, stretching from David Rancourt Preserve to the Lincoln Street Boat Launch on the Lewiston side and the North River Road Boat Launch to the Rollerdrome in Auburn. Power Boats may be Launched below Great Falls at the Lincoln Street Boat Launch, behind Gritty’s by Festival Plaza in Auburn or at the North River Road boat launch in Auburn above the falls. Hand Carry boat launches in Lewiston are located below the falls at the Lewiston Dock at Simard-Payne Park or David Rancourt preserve above the falls and at Anniversary Park in Auburn.
The Jay/Livermore Falls effort will be led by Stewardship Director Amy Soper and Executive Director Aimee Dorval and feature working from the water for this year’s cleanup, but shoreline volunteers are also strongly encouraged.
Zones will be assigned at check-in. Volunteers can walk the land/shoreline or use their canoe or kayak. Corporate teams are welcome. Forms can be sent in advance to sign up a school group or minors. Androscoggin Land Trust is looking for teams to volunteer from employers and community organizations. Call 207-782-2302 or emailing info@androscogginlandtrust.org for information.
