MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Community Players will present their 2nd annual MCP Shorts Festival Sept. 9-11, in Anniversary Park, Auburn.
The MCP’s first play festival took place online and was live-streamed to the audience, with seven plays showcased. Wanting to continue the tradition of celebrating the work of local playwrights, MCP has expanded the festival. It will feature 12 10-minute plays from 11 Maine and regional playwrights.
These 12 plays have never been fully produced before, and many of them were written specifically for the festival. The only guidelines given to playwrights were to keep the play to approximately 10 minutes in length and to base their play, in some way, around the theme of waiting.
The selected playwrights include Bob LeBlanc (Newburyport, Mass.), Dan Marois (Rochester, N.H.), Jo-Anne Walton (Portland), Jake Lewis (Marlborough, Mass.), Emily Carlton (Fairfield), Josie French (Lewiston), Laura Emack (Prospect), Izzy Hamann (Monmouth), Danny Gay (Monmouth), Greg Simpson (Minot), and Randy Hunt (Westbrook). The 12 plays will be directed by eight local directors and the acting talent also comes from the Lewiston/Auburn area.
Shows will be performed outdoors at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 and 11.
