Messalonskee senior receives music scholarship

WATERVILLE— The Waterville Area Art Society has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Messalonskee High School student, violinist Catherine Estes, who plans to attend Cedarville University in Ohio.
Estes recently traveled to the school and auditioned successfully for acceptance into the music department after considering several other majors and a minor in music. She has played in local orchestras — including the Mid-Maine Youth Orchestra — string quartets and weekly services at her church.
In addition, she has also performed in the Maine Education Association All-State Orchestra, most recently May 21 at the Collins Center, University of Maine.
The instructor nominating Estes noted “her musical ability is outstanding, and she plays not only with technical facility, but with an expressive maturity seldom found in high school students,” describing her as “the epitome of a role model for other students to aspire to.”
