LEWISTON — The Lewiston Auburn Economic Growth Council has announced its Top Gun L-A Program will be hosting a regional pitch-off event Wednesday, May 24, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at The Ramada Inn & Conference Center, 490 Pleasant St.
According to Chelsea Fournier, Top Gun L-A Program coordinator, “It has been an honor to be part of the first class of ‘Top Gun’ entrepreneurs from our local region. The expansion of this program — designed by the Maine Center for Entrepreneurial Development — into our community is a great marker of the entrepreneurship and innovation going on in our backyard.”
The program included 10 substantive sessions with top-notch professionals presenting on topics start-ups need to immerse themselves in as a growing business, including customer discovery, strategic marketing, human resources, financing and legal requirements. An underlying theme of the Top Gun program also includes teaching the skill of pitching your company and vision — whether it be pitching to investors, collaborators or first clients. “Seeing the transformation and growth in the businesses and pitches from the first class in February of this year to now is remarkable,” Fournier added. “I hope the room is packed to support these amazing entrepreneurs and their hard work.”
The regional pitch-off event is sponsored by Munka (pronounced “moonka”) Coworking and will consist of about an hour of meeting and mingling, followed by a one-hour pitch-off portion, where Top Gun L-A program participants will have five minutes to give their business pitch to judges and attendees. After the pitch-off portion of the event, judges will meet and choose the top two regional winners to represent Top Gun LA in a statewide pitch showcase. There will be one Top Gun pitch winner determined at the statewide finals, when regional pitch-off winners compete June 7 in Portland.
