Cancer Resource Center kayak program begins June 20

Jun. 182022

NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine’s kayaking wellness program begins on Monday, June 20.
The free program is held on Norway Lake and open to anyone impacted by cancer – patients, survivors, family members and caregivers. The program is taught by Sherri Otterson.
Kayaking provides physical, social and emotional well-being for all who participate. It can be good for improving flexibility and shoulder range of motion, especially for people who have had breast cancer surgery.
A limited amount of kayaks, paddles, and personal floatation devices will be available. Those with their own equipment should bring it if possible. Support will be given to those who have never kayaked. Water shoes or shoes that can get wet are suggested, along with sunscreen, hat, water and towel. Come prepared to get outside and be active with others and have fun.
No reservation is needed. Those attended for the first time should get there 15 to 30 minutes early to sign in.
The program will be held twice on Mondays:
9- 11 a.m., meeting at the public boat launch at Pennesseewassee Park, Route 118.
4-6 p.m., meeting at Crockett Ridge Road fishing pier/kayak ramp.
Individual kayaking is also available on Wednesdays. Participants may call the center, which will contact Otterson, who will contact you to make arrangements.
