BELGRADE — The paving project Belgrade voters approved at Town Meeting in March will begin June 6 and is scheduled to continue through June 23.
Pike Industries, which did Belgrade’s last paving project in 2019, will do the work.
The project starts on June 6 with Depot Road and Old Route 27, and moves north. In addition to Old Route 27 and Depot Road, roads to be paved are Guptill Road, Hulin Road, School Street, Red Oak Lodge Road, Lakeshore Drive and the Transfer Station complex. The narrower roads in the village will be closed for a day as they are being paved.Residents on those streets will be notified in advance so they can plan accordingly.
Initial work will involve reclaiming, which is pulverizing a road’s asphalt surface and the underlying base, and then grading them to serve as the base for a new driving surface. That process is expected to be completed June 15.
Paving is scheduled to begin June 13. The crews will work Monday through Friday, and Saturday if necessary, until the project is finished, which is scheduled for June 23, depending on the weather.
Drivers are urged to be patient and use caution to ensure road workers’ safety.
The Board of Selectpersons on May 17 awarded the paving contract to Pike, which offered the lowest of the five bids the town received, at $775,192.
All State Materials Group will chip-seal East-West Lane and Minot Hill Road this summer. Chip-sealing is a pavement preservation technique that prevents moisture from seeping into a roadway and damaging its base. The East-West Lane was shimmed May 23 to level the roadway in preparation for chip-sealing. All State submitted a bid of $112,702.
