AUGUSTA — Kenny Wing, of Eustis, will be the guest speaker at the Wednesday, June 15, meeting of the Kennebec Historical Society.
The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 2 Dresden Ave., Gardiner. It is free and open to the public, though donations are accepted.
Wing will discuss the 1775 Arnold Expedition, particularly its path through Franklin County on the way to Quebec City. Wing’s father was an expert on Arnold’s expedition through the Eustis area, an interest Wing inherited. Both Wings discovered numerous sites where the expedition spent a night. Their artifact collection, which Wing says is the largest in existence, has contributed greatly to what is known about the expedition, according to Wing.
Wing’s father, grandfather and great-grandfather were born and lived in Flagstaff village, which was one of four towns in Franklin County flooded to create Flagstaff Lake. Wing is a board member of four historical organizations – the Flagstaff Memorial Chapel Association, Maine Archaeological Society, Arnold Expedition Historical Society and the Dead River Area Historical Society. He is a co-author of “The Lost Villages of Flagstaff Lake,” and has done extensive research for several authors of other books about the area.
