GRAY — It’s finally spring planting time, and there’s a great place to purchase a variety of annual flowers, vegetables and hanging and potted plants. The Maine Wildlife Park will hold its sale Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 27 through 29, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park, 56 Game Farm Road, Route 26.
Plants will be available for purchase in the parking lot, so there is no admission fee to shop. You can support the Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park and the park directly with your purchases. On Memorial Day, plant sales will continue inside the park until they are all gone. People come back every year for the fabulous geraniums, petunias, zinnias, tomatoes and more!
The Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park volunteer group helps the park in so many ways; learn more about their ongoing projects and enjoy great bargains on spring plants with annual and perennial flowers, vegetables and floral baskets grown in their own greenhouse! In conjunction, The Red Cross Rays/Up blood drive will be held on Saturday, May 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This drive has gathered its quota of blood for the past two years at the Wildlife Park. The American Red Cross plays a critical role in our nation’s health care system, processing approximately 40 percent of the blood supply. They encourage people to reveal their inner hero and donate life-saving blood at its annual park blood drive. Donors registering for this event receive free admission to the Maine Wildlife Park and a discount for immediate family members on this day! You can pre-register at www.redcrossblood.org.
The Maine Wildlife Park is owned and operated by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The park exists to promote an understanding and awareness of the wildlife, conservation and habitat protection programs and projects of MDIFW. The park has more than 30 species of native wildlife on display, plus wildlife gardens, nature trails, a fish hatchery and other interactive exhibits and displays. The park is open daily from April 15 through November 11, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; visitors may then stay until 6 p.m.
Admission to the park is free for ages 3 and under; $5.50 ages 4-12; $7.50 for adults, and $5.50 for seniors. Groups of 15 or more are $3.50 per person. Bring a picnic and spend the day. Family and community season passes are a great bargain for families and groups visiting the park several times over the course of the summer.
