RAYMOND – The re-opening of the boyhood home of author Nathaniel Hawthorne as a community event center will be celebrated with an open house on Saturday, May 7.
The event, from 1 to 4 p.m., is free and open to the public.
The historic Hawthorne House, 40 Hawthorne Road, will be available for everything from meetings to receptions to small weddings to crafts fairs to birthday parties and more, from May through September each year.
The open house will feature refreshments, hors d’oeuvres , and live music by Gary Wittner from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The event marks the completion of Phase 1 of The Hawthorne Community Association’s three-year effort to raise $75,000 to make urgent structural repairs to the building. The money paid for building foundation repairs and repairs to other critical elements of the structure, as well as a makeover of the interior. Phase 2 of the fundraising campaign seeks to raise $30,000 to cover the costs of a new roof, new siding and painting.
