Monmouth, Wales residents urged to drop retired American flags off at Monmouth transfer station

MONMOUTH — The Monmouth transfer station has set out a special receptacle for American flags that are too worn, frayed or damaged to be flown, and American Legion Post 204 requests residents of Monmouth and Wales deposit their retired flags there.

The flags left in the receptacle, which is at the base of the flag pole, will be disposed of by members of Post 204 in a flag retirement ceremony on June 14, which is Flag Day.

The Legion is also hosting a booth at the Monmouth Fair, which is Wednesday, Aug. 2 to Saturday, Aug. 5.

Money raised at the event provide the majority of Legion resources, which are invested back into the community in the form of special projects, scholarships, education, veteran’s services and advocacy, as well as local charity, a news release from Post 204 said.
