AUBURN — The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society’s Spring General Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 30, at Auburn Public Library.
The meeting is open to anyone who is interested in Franco-American genealogy or finding out what an archivist does. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with a 
brief business meetings and refreshments, following by an 11 a.m. presentation by Faherty, archivist of the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine (Lewiston-Auburn College). Faherty will give a power-point presentation about her work as well as the physical and digital resources available at the collection.
She will provide illustrations and speak about the items in the collection which vary in format from photos and scrapbooks to letters, and even clothing. Faherty will also include the different themes and subjects represented in the collection, such as snowshoeing, school, French language and newspapers, religion, and more.
She will also explain how to access both the Franco Collection’s podcast “Franco-American Pathways” and the Franco-American Digital Archive which is an online database created by multiple Franco cultural heritage institutions.
Faherty is a graduate of Simmons University with a dual master’s degree in history and archives management. Before working at the Franco-American Collection, she worked at Fort Ticonderoga, an 18th century military site in New York, integral in the French and Indian Wars (also known as the Seven Years War) and the American Revolutionary War. Her historical background is in labor and immigration in the United States from the 19th to the early 20th century.
