LEWISTON – The Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is partnering with local conservation nonprofits on a forester walk on April 3, and a Earth Day celebration April 22.
The April schedule includes:
Walk with a Forester, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, April 3, Curtis Homestead Demonstration Forest, Leeds. District Forester Julie Davenport will help participants identify local trees, discuss forest management practices and different ways to interpret land use history using clues from the forest. She will also discuss ways landowners can manage their own woodlands for the benefit of both present and future generations. The program is partly supported by the Kennebec Woodlands Partnership, which aims to promote forest stewardship by providing landowners with tools and strategies that will help them make informed decisions about their woodlands.
Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. There is a $5 fee. Registration is requested but not required. Pay with cash or a check at the event, or pay ahead of time. Register with Emma at projectdirector@andoscogginswcd.org.
Earth Day celebration, Friday, April 22, Maine Outdoor Wellness Center, 69 River Road, Turner. Nezinscot Farm and AVSWCD are partnering on a day of celebration of the Earth.
