CANTON — Helen and James Martin have stepped into the role of directors at the Canton Baptist Church Food Pantry. They take over the position after the passing of long-time directors Lisa and Steven Wills.
The team of 14 workers have kept things running, providing food to Canton and Hartford residents in need. With Maine’s cold weather, many people have to decide between warmth or food. Every little bit helps. Although the pantry is open from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings at the fire department building, it takes approximately 22 man hours to make this happen. Workers start Friday morning by picking up donated food at Hannaford in Rumford, and Walmart in Mexico. There’s another trip to Hannaford Sunday morning, then set-up for distribution.
The pantry is grateful for the many years of service the Wills gave and hope to continue in the manner they accomplished
