LEWISTON – The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society recently elected officers and board members.
Officers and new board members are Marie Murphy, Arthur Allard (vice president), Jeanne Letourneau, the Rev. Robert Parent (president), Simeon Breault (webmaster) and Ann Nadeau.
Murphy was employed by the city of Lewiston for 37 years, and now enjoys spending time with her granddaughter. She was born and raised in Lewiston and proud of her deep Canadian roots, which include the family names of Cloutier, Dostie, Nadeau and Veilleux.
Allard is originally from New Hampshire, served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard and worked for the Lewiston Public Schools system for 31 years. He joined the MFGS in 1998 and has been vice president, president and research director.
Letourneau has been an MFGS board member for six years, and is also the Minot Historical Societ board.
Parent has been a board member, librarian and president for several terms. He brings a wealth of information and many contacts that help to expand the resources at the library.
Breault is a retired U.S. Air Force officer (25 years) and was a school bus driver for 17 years. He was born in Lewiston and resides in Brunswick. He joined MFGS in 2018, and has been a board member, librarian, “obituary clipper” and webmaster. He recently completed a 10-generation chart and is still collecting details on Breault-Bazinet family ancestors.
Nadeau is semi-retired after working 15 years at Oxford Networks as a marketing and human resource coordinator. She also volunteered and was a board member for the Womens’ Hospital Association at Central Maine Medical Center. She is working on a 10-generation family chart that includes the family names Miville-Deschaines, Morneault.
The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society is nonprofit, primarily self-help genealogical research library dedicated to help Americans of French-Canadian and Acadian ancestry discover their history. It is a volunteer- led organization with members available to help those seeking information maneuver through its 3,200 volumes, which include a collection of marriage repertoires from all New England states as well as Canada, New York and Oregon.
