BRIDGTON – Gallery 302 has welcomed two new artists — Celeste Fleming, who works in watercolor and mixed media, and milliner Nancy Corcoran-Murphy.
Fleming has an undergraduate degree in psychology and fine arts, and after retiring from her psychotherapy practice, she had her husband moved from New Jersey to Maine, where they had vacationed for more than 30 years. She had always pursued art, and began painting in earnest in 2020. Her work is rooted in the exploration of the external landscape and her own inner landscape.
Corcoran-Murphy also recently moved to the area, though has roots here that go back more than a century. Her Bridgton Collection of wool-felted hats is inspired by the women in her family, when her grandmother, Martha and her sister, Natalie attended Bridgton Academy. Nancy enjoyed summer at her mother’s family’s Waterford camp. She said the recent move from the noise and chaos of big city life to the calmness and beauty of Maine has been thrilling. She began taking millinery lessons several years ago, which led to study at the Millinery at the School of Fashion Design in Boston. She is trained to work with most anything that can be shaped into a headpiece.
