LEWISTON — The exciting news for the upcoming Maine Innovation Expo is that all spaces for exhibitors and student participants are filled to capacity with an outstanding lineup of innovation and creativity. Come explore, make, create, learn, discover and be inspired to be innovative at Museum L-A’s premier event. The Maine Innovation Expo will take place Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum, 35 Canal St. The event is designed for family fun adventure with creative and interactive exhibits, inspiration, entertainment and food.
The Expo not only will provide a platform for connecting generations and inspiring young people to explore innovative careers strengthening our community but also will create a forum where business and student innovation connect. The event has been designed to be fun, educational and entertaining for all ages.
How much of a variety can be expected? Attendees might build a boat and make sure it floats with the Landing School of Boat Building and Design; learn about mathematical image processing with Bates College; hear and see future broadcasters on assignment with Oxford Hills Middle School News Quest. Have you ever played a piano with a banana? If not, come meet with Alternative Manufacturing Inc. Prefer art? View projection art connected to music with artist Kate Katomski.
Build and fly with the Maine Drones Society. Meet the non-profit Healthy Homeworks and build a bed through their Earn-a-Bed program. Of historical significance, see the art of locally-handcrafted premium leather shoes with Rancourt & Company Shoecrafters. Meet Vex, Lego, Wonder Dash and Dot and participate in a CSI murder scene with the Lewiston Public School system. See how maple sugaring has advanced with the invention of North Woods Stainless Steel fabrication. Check out Don’t Panic Consulting; the Human Patient Simulator from Life Flight Foundation; Bike Part Art; Shadow Puppetry; 3-D printing through the Auburn Public Library; J. Dostie Jewelers and so much more.
Entertainment will be provided by AudioBody, returning by popular demand. New this year is Shadow Puppetry. You don’t want to miss the expo’s motivational entrepreneurial speaker, Peter Roberts, from OriginUSA, who decided to bring his manufacturing back to America from Pakistan five years ago and is now a successful young entrepreneur doing what he loves.
Food for purchase will be provided by The BBQ Pit, 838 Lisbon St, the home of Alabama-style barbecue. Weather permitting, sit over the canal and enjoy the beginnings of summer foods and our beautiful community.
