BRIDGTON — Meghan Powderly Bates, an American who has lived in England for more than a decade, will share her personal experience with both U.S. and U.K. health care systems as a speaker at the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club meeting 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, via Zoom.
Bates was born and raised in Massachusetts, where she spent her adult years, primarily in marketing in the financial services field. Today she lives in England with her husband and two children. She is a digital product owner, working in insurance.
How accurate are Americans’ perceptions of England’s National Health Service? Long waiting periods for access, questionably capable physicians and nurses, lower-paid health care workers, less than satisfactory hospitals and more — are all the stories that Americans hear true?
